Auto-play troubleshooting and browser settings

Modern web browsers are quite picky about allowing autoplaying videos because this feature was abused by advertisers in the past. To make sure autoplay works for your Real Python courses and you can watch courses uninterrupted, check the following settings in your Real Python account and browser:

1. Ensure auto-play is enabled in your Real Python account settings

2. Ensure your browser allows auto-playing videos on realpython.com

On Chrome, make sure that autoplay is enabled by clicking on the lock icon in the URL bar and selecting "Sound: Allow" as displayed in the screenshot below:

On Firefox, enable autoplay by clicking on the lock icon in the URL bar and selecting "Autoplay: Allow Audio and Video":

On Safari Desktop, enable autoplay under the "Websites" tab in Safari preferences:

On Safari for iOS and iPadOS, Apple currently does not allow videos to autoplay with sound enabled. This means videos will always start muted when viewed on these devices. You can unmute audio by tapping the speaker icon on the video player.

We're exploring potential workarounds (such as a one-tap "unmute" button) to make the experience smoother, but this is a platform limitation outside our direct control.
